SYSTEM SELF-DIAGNOSIS TOOL - TEAM BUILDING AND PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

HOW IT WORKS

  • The SYSTEM SELF-DIAGNOSIS TOOL is designed to help you reflect on the state of your SYSTEM, whether it’s a sports team, company, government body, band, school, community, or any collective structure.

WHERE THIS CONCEPT COMES FROM

  • It is based on ancient principles using archetypical elements to represent the symbiotic relationships and interdependencies among the parts of your system.

  • Each element corresponds to a phase of system functioning, offering insight into both the micro (individual) and macro (team or organization) dynamics.

PHASES

ACTIVATION (Fire)

  • The beginning or start of the system: energy input, initiation, spark of action

STRUCTURE (Earth)

  • Frameworks or containers: organization, rules, roles, and constraints

CONNECTION (Air)

  • Relations, communications, concepts, and interactions: opposition, comparison, dialogue

INTEGRATION (Water)

  • Adaptation, transformation, and evolution: learning, resilience, cleansing, support and system maturity

PARALLEL PRINCIPLES

  • Air activates Fire: Ideas spark action.

  • Water slows Fire: Integration takes time compared to rapid activation.

  • Earth fosters both Water and Fire: Strong frameworks support energetic actions and transformative processes.

COMPLEMENTARY AND OPPOSITE FORCES INTERACTION

Crisis and friction are both catalysts and challenges. What allows us to distinguish them is our perspective.

By reflecting on how to use these forces in favor of system evolution, we can transform obstacles into opportunities for growth. Understanding these dynamics is key for both surviving and evolving, as every tension or conflict within a system carries the potential to generate new energy, insight, and adaptation.

SYSTEM SELF-DIAGNOSIS TOOL - STEP BY STEP

HOW TO USE IT

  1. Go through the questions for each phase.

  2. Answer Yes or No to indicate whether your system is functioning effectively in that area.

  3. Identify strengths (Yes) and areas for improvement (No).

FEEDBACK

After completing the questionnaire, you will see a button that displays structured feedback for each phase, including:

  • Phase Name – Identifies which phase the feedback applies to.

  • Phase Meaning – Reminds you of the role this phase plays in your system.

  • What Your System Needs – Key action words to inspire movement and strengthen this phase.

  • Helpful Actions – Practical steps to improve, stabilize, or enhance your system.

This allows you to reflect on your system’s current state and take actionable steps without disrupting its natural dynamics, helping you align energy, structure, communication, and evolution for maximum system potential.

TOOL ECOSYSTEM

This tool is part of a set of tools created for The Decision-Making & Team Roles Workshop in Barcelona, a reflective team-building experience designed to:

  • Help individuals and teams understand their roles

  • Improve communication

  • Align decisions with purpose
