COLLABORATION
The word "collaboration" comes from the Latin word "collaborare". The action of working with someone to produce or bring something into existence.
The joint effort, the alliance, the association, the cooperation....
partnership
participation
combination
teamwork
working together
And there will be more phrases or words to add to the list above.
THE START
From creating a new product to selling it, from inventing a new song to releasing it, from having a basic idea to developing a project, all of this needs a defined guidance and a well structured plan.
So before going ahead with this post my first question to you will be:
Do you have an interesting or valuable unfinished artwork, product or project that hasn't been developed, produced or released because of your lack of personal resources (knowledge, creativity, investment, skills..etc)?

TO COLLABORATE OR TO NOT COLLABORATE
And because we are social beings we usually have the gathering and sharing instinct turned on, but before going ahead with all the benefits that a COLLABORATION may bring to one's project, there will be a few key questions to ask ourselves:

Selecting the BEST PERSON for the ROLE:
Who will be the best COLLABORATOR for the different stages?
Is it just about their skills or does their character also shape the selection?
What are their core goals in life beside this project?

THE SPLIT REVENUE
It's always good to achieve a quality collaborative outcome, that includes not only the released artwork, project or product, it also means that the future revenue, coming from that, should be fairly distributed among the team members.
Writing down the Split Revenue Agreement and making all the team sign it or answer back on email to agree, is a smart and a necessary move.
Always remember that there is only a 100% Revenue to be divided among all the team members.
With big responsibilities, there should be a larger revenue percentage for those collaborators that have been working more than the rest of the team.
If this is an ongoing collaborative project it may be good to keep part of the revenue as an investment for funding future projects together. Let's say that we should keep between 20% - 50% of the revenue for this use.
There should be one, max two people to manage the revenue.
